If you use Google Workspace and need to connect your account to apps that don't support 2-Step Verification, you can create an app password. This special password gives you secure access without sharing your main password.
Why use app passwords?
- Increases security for older apps or devices.
- Prevents your main account password from becoming public.
- Works seamlessly with third-party apps and email setup.
Steps to generate a Google Workspace app password
First, ensure that 2SV is enabled for your organization. If it is not enabled than you can't generate it.
Enable 2-Step Verification
- Go to your Google Account Settings.
- Go to Security → 2-Step Verification and set it up.
- Access app passwords
- From Security Settings, choose App Passwords.
- Sign in again to confirm your identity.
- Create a new app password
- Click Generate to create a 16-character password.
Copy and save it for later use.
Use an app password
Copy and paste it into the app's password field or third-party backup tool like MailsDaddy Gmail Backup Tool.
By following above steps, you can ensure app compatibility while keeping your Google Workspace account secure.
