What Is Microsoft 365 and M365?

In 2025, Microsoft introduced a new plan and added Copilot AI features broadly to many plans which also impact on previous subscription plans.

The pricing may vary depending on whether you choose a monthly or yearly billing option.
Note: Microsoft announced a global price increase for commercial Office 365/Microsoft 365 plans effective July 2026. For example, Business Basic will rise ~16.7%, Business Standard ~12%, while Enterprise plans will increase moderately.

There is a plan "Apps for Business" for only Office desktop apps and cloud storage. No custom domain setup and Teams rather then that I suggest business basic.

Microsoft Non-profit Plan
This plan is designed for non-profit organizations such as charitable trusts, community organizations, and service providers that do not generate any profit. The organization must be committed to non-discrimination, meaning it should not have any policies or a mission that discriminates in hiring or service provision.
Office E1 is completely free for non-profits, while other plans are offered at heavily discounted rates.
When to Choose Which Plan or Subscription?
If you’re still unsure which plan suits your organization, don’t worry. Here is my suggestion for the best plan for your organization — take a look to understand the plan type better.
Home users / Students / Freelancers
Choose Personal and Family plan, if you don't want AI features and more storage. OR select Premium to utilize AI features on multiple devices with maximum storage.
Small business / Startup / SMB
With "Business Basic", you can install the Office 365 apps in your desktop. It is only accessible in web and mobile apps. While "Business Standard" includes basic plan and additionally allow to setup in desktop mean more flexibility.
If you are security-conscious, choose Business Premium, which adds advanced security features and gives you full control over threats and device protection.
Enterprise / Large organizations
Enterprise-level licenses provide access to the full suite of Microsoft 365 apps, along with advanced compliance and analytics features. This is best for managing large organizations across multiple regions and countries.
Only Office apps - No email/Teams
Apps for Business is designed for users who don’t need a lot of storage or collaborative applications like freelancers.
